What they found was a beautiful place that is chiefly made out of limestone and offers an extremely attractive landscape that is ripe for exploration.

Capital Valletta

One reason for Malta’s draw is the beautiful capital city, which is called Valletta. This is located on the North East coast and is close to Luqa, the main airport.

The city is known as a ‘fortified town’ and was built on a grid format, making it really easy to navigate while combining exciting history that is sure to keep you intrigued.

It is a fairly modern capital city and was built in the 1560s, following the siege of Malta by the Ottoman Turks. It is considered to have the best fortifications in the world which are definitely worth exploring.

It never snows in Malta, so it isn’t the best place to go if you are looking for winter sports, but the accommodation is relatively cheap compared with most of the rest of Europe, so it’s great whether you are on a budget or looking for a little bit of luxury as the entire spectrum is catered for.

It’s also a great place to go scuba diving as the waters are clear and tide less, so it offers fantastic diving for beginners and experts alike.

There is lots of exciting marine life to be discovered as well as many shipwrecks dotted around the island, so you are almost guaranteed to see something exciting whenever you go diving in Malta.
